Target is coming to DRIP

For years, one of the most common questions asked by homebuyers moving to Dripping Springs has been, "So… how far is the closest… Target?"

Soon the answer will be just a few minutes.

Target has officially confirmed plans for its first Dripping Springs location, bringing one of the nation's most popular retailers to one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Texas.

Where Will the New Target Be Located?

The new store is planned for 13550 W. U.S. Highway 290 as part of The Village at Dripping Springs, a new commercial development located near the Belterra area between CVS Pharmacy and the Dripping Springs Racquet Club.

The store is expected to encompass approximately 145,000 square feet, making it a full-size Target location rather than one of the company's smaller urban concepts.

What Is The Village at Dripping Springs?

The Village at Dripping Springs is a new retail development designed to serve the rapidly growing western Hays County market. In addition to Target, the development includes space for additional retail, dining, and service businesses.

Target will serve as the anchor tenant, a role that often attracts complementary retailers and restaurants to surrounding spaces.

For many residents, this means more shopping options closer to home and fewer trips into Austin, Bee Cave, or Sunset Valley for everyday necessities.

When Will the Store Open?

Construction timelines continue to evolve as development progresses. Recent project filings indicate construction activity is expected to continue through 2027, with current projections pointing toward an opening in early 2028.

As with any large commercial development, timelines can change due to permitting (which many residents feel is lax in this area and they aren’t happy about it), construction schedules, market conditions and even weather.  It’s been unseasonably and un-Central Texas wet so far this summer, something I haven’t seen in the decade I’ve lived here.

What Does This Mean for Dripping Springs Real Estate?

Major retail investments are often viewed as indicators of long-term confidence in a community's growth. While a new Target alone does not determine home values, nationally recognized retailers typically choose locations where population growth, household income, and long-term demand support future success.

For homebuyers considering Dripping Springs, the addition of Target adds another convenience factor to a community already known for highly regarded schools, Hill Country scenery, outdoor recreation, and easy access to Austin.

The project also reflects a broader trend occurring throughout western Hays County. As more families choose Dripping Springs, Driftwood, and surrounding communities, retailers are increasingly following the rooftops.

Why This Matters to Future Residents

One of the biggest concerns I hear from buyers relocating to the area is balancing Hill Country living with everyday convenience, there are several HEB (our primary grocery store in Texas) to select from but if you need items found in a department store, that’s a bit of a drive - up to 40 minutes from some neighborhoods.

Dripping Springs has long offered beautiful neighborhoods, larger lots, and excellent schools, but many residents still travel outside the area for certain shopping needs. The arrival of Target represents another step in the community's evolution while maintaining the qualities that make people want to live here in the first place.

Whether you're a longtime resident or considering a move to Dripping Springs, the addition of Target is another sign that the community continues to attract investment, businesses, and amenities that support a growing population.

As more information becomes available regarding construction progress, additional tenants, and opening timelines, I'll continue to provide updates for local residents and homebuyers.

If you're considering buying or selling a home in Dripping Springs, Driftwood, or the surrounding Hill Country, I'd be happy to help you understand how ongoing growth and development may impact your real estate decisions. Don’t buy before you know what’s coming!
